Public transport in Cork is safe, reliable and very regular. It is popular with young people and widely used.
The Western Gateway Building, where you will have your classes, is just a 5-minute walk away, and the Main Rest, where you will have your meals, is 10 minutes away. To get to the City Centre, you can take public transport, or enjoy a scenic 25-minute walk.
Your Group Leaders will take you to the Main Rest in the mornings for breakfast, and then back to the Western Gateway Building for your classes.
Public buses are very regular (see the timetable for bus number 208 and bus number 220) and leave from the bus stop immediately outside the Western Gateway Building. Both of these will take you directly to the city centre. To get from the city back to your residence, take the 220 from the bus stop outside the library on Grande Parade, or the 208 from the stop on St Patrick's Street.
We strongly recommend that you download the app TFI Live from the Google Play Store or the Apple store. This will show you live times of buses from the stop that you choose.
The Western Gateway Building is a part of the larger University College Cork Campus, located on Western Road. It is a lovely green campus, with 31 classrooms. All of your meals are taken at the Main Rest on the main UCC campus and some parts of your social programme will happen here too.
Many evening social activities will take place in the Western Gateway Building which is just a 2 minute walk from the residence.
The only event planned in the evening outside of the Western Gateway Building will be the disco on Wednesday night.
This will finish at 21:00 and you will need to travel back to Victoria Mills with your group or our staff on public transport.
If you cause any damage to the room or the property, we will expect you to pay for the damage before you leave
Make sure you keep your room locked and any money or valuables in a locked suitcase. Remember, Ireland uses debit and credit cards for almost all purchases. You really don’t need to bring lots of cash with you.
We expect all students to be in their flats by 22:00 and in their own rooms by 22:30. We do have a checking system in place and students breaking the curfew will face disciplinary action.
